Providers are preparing for implementation of the healthcare reform law against a backdrop of uncertainty as legal and legislative challenges to the Affordable Care Act continue. Regardless of the fate of the reform law, the current shift to value-based payment will continue. To successfully manage the transition to value, healthcare organizations should develop key organizational capabilities for value and communicate value to purchasers.

  • ICD 10 (2:30pm – 3:25pm)
By 2013, the HHS has mandated that all HIPAA "covered entities" must upgrade to ICD-10. The new system allows for more precise classification of diseases and reflects recent advances in disease detection and treatment via biomedical informatics, genetic research and international data-sharing. While converting to ICD-10 will require careful planning for an effective implementation, the process does not have to be as challenging as organizations fear. ICD-10 conversion will not be fast, and it will not be easy. Tackling the transition with a proactive and strategic mindset will help better position an organization to achieve significant revenue cycle and other operational improvements.
Speaker: David Gaydosh, Sr.Executive in Provider Practice; Health and Public Service, Accenture

  • Break (3:25pm – 3:35pm)

  • Making Sense of It All: Seeing through the Transparency Description (3:35pm – 4:30pm)
Pricing transparency is a complex terrain with many perspectives. Healthcare providers are struggling to comply with legislative requirements, meet the needs of the consumer and provide sensible information. Consumers strive to understand what is important to them. They want to know what their out-of-pocket expenses will be and where they can get their questions answered. Since consumers now demand answers in order to make educated informed decisions about healthcare tests, treatments and procedures, selection of physicians, hospitals and other providers, payers try to accommodate their members and providers by supplying useful information regarding pricing and quality. We examine these three perspectives and learn how providers and payers can work together to meet the demands of the consumer.
Speaker: Julie Kay, VP Revenue Cycle Solutions Strategy, MedAssets
